Jonathan Yu is the founder of Initia Real Estate and one of its brokers. From a young age, Jonathan was always exposed to real estate and grew to develop a keen interest in real estate. He entered the real estate industry as a Realtor in 2010, and while he had a strong start, he immediately noticed major issues and challenges facing Realtors. 

“When I first became a Realtor over a decade ago, I had no idea what to do or where to go, so I decided to join a brokerage with name recognition. Why? Simply put, I didn’t know any better. The broker and staff were nice, but I always felt that something was missing. Aside from a brand package promoting the brokerage and a monthly brokerage bill hanging over my head, I was not provided with any guidance to start. Right from the get-go, this didn’t sit right with me. So, I searched in vain for a better brokerage, but I could not find what I was looking for, and thought: Why don’t I make one?” 

From that moment, Jonathan continued to develop and hone his knowledge of the industry, to take the necessary steps to create his real estate brokerage. In 2016, with several years of experience, as well as a law degree from the acclaimed University of Nevada Las Vegas, Jonathan felt that the time was right to start his brokerage. 

In April of 2016, Jonathan created Initia Real Estate with certain key goals in mind: simplifying fees for Realtors, eliminating any notion of hidden fees (one of the main things that Jonathan learned upset Realtors), and providing exceptional broker support for both new and experienced agents. Ultimately, his goal was to provide exceptional value to Realtors, so that agents would be able to keep more for themselves to build their successful brands and businesses – all while providing the level of support and training necessary to propel his Realtors’ careers.

Since its inception, Initia Real Estate has kept its core founding values, while fine-tuning its operations to the needs and wants of its Realtors. Also since its inception, Jonathan has overseen Initia Real Estate’s growth to now (as of 2023) including hundreds of Realtors in offices spanning Canada and Mexico. 

Jonathan continues his role as a managing broker in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, but now also works alongside other managing brokers and Realtor partners in other territories that are serviced by Initia Real Estate.
